If you work in marketing, you are probably au fait with all things to do with social media and online advertising, but are you up to speed with marketing phone calls? If not, here are some of the facts you should know about this surprisingly powerful channel.
How the genders balance
When it comes to making marketing calls, 53% of the callers are men and 47% women. Broadly speaking, it is a pretty fair balance.
What customers want
Interestingly, research suggests that 65% of customers still like to contact businesses by phone, especially those from the Baby Boomer generation; however, as the generations work downward, younger people, especially younger Millennials and Gen Z customers, far prefer to use online chat and AI chatbots over phones. Many of these younger customers actively prefer to avoid call centres and will rarely pick up the phone.
Down but not out
Around 80% of all calls are made or received from mobile phones when it comes to marketing calls; however, landlines aren’t down or out, and they are certainly preferred by older customers. Many of these customers love older digital devices; for example, did you know that the humble pager system is still in use? A pager system can be a great business tool even in 2025.
When are marketing calls being made?
Around 40% of people pick up the phone to call a business weekly, often from their work phone. The highest volume of calls is seen on Mondays, and the lowest volume of calls, perhaps unsurprisingly, is on a Sunday.
