Five Tips on Remodelling Your House

‘Change – Yes, we can!’ – If Barack Obama can do it, why not you? Okay, I’m not telling you to run for the US presidency, but haven’t you ever thought about upgrading your home ‘décor’? Whether you have just moved into an older home or you have been living in it for years and you feel like you are simply ready to give your home a new look – These five tips below will help you make your older house shine again and look like new.

Paint the Walls

Are your walls mostly white and I’m talking about that dingy looking white, because it’s been so long since your walls had a fresh glance of paint on them. The easiest way to offer your home a fresh look is to paint it. Either you can repaint the white walls or try out another colour – remember ‘Change! Yes, we can!’ Shades of blue, green or purple are a strong fashion – forward statement for your house. Another nice side effect is adding some baseboard or doorway trim in a complementary shade too. Trust me; this will give your walls that extra something.

Reupholster your Furniture

IMPORTANT – Never ever throw out your old furniture, when you are remodelling your house. All you need to do is to reupholster it. You can either hire an expert to do it for you, or you take matters into your own hands and start recovering the couch or chair on your own. Many DIY blogs and sites offer you nice articles on how to upholster furniture. Another tip is to search YouTube for different upholstering step-by-step tutorials!

New Doorknobs or Handles

Many of you might still have the same knocker on your front door since you moved in or bought the house. It wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to run down to the local home improvement store and change the way your doors, dressers or cabinets look in just a matter of moments.

Change your Window Treatments

If you don’t remember the last time you have put up some new drapes or blinds, then that definitely shows you that it’s time to get some new window treatments done. There are different kinds of varieties for all kinds of budgets. Just search for ‘window treatment ideas’ on Google and you’ll be surprised of all the clever decorating ideas there are on the web. Hence, you make your own curtains ala DIY style or purchase some Roman blinds or roller shades.

New House accessories

If your budget is tight, but you really want to remodel your home, a few new house accessories can really create wonders. People assume that they have to spend a lot of money, in order to show off their upgraded home. Purchase some new rugs for your kitchen and bathroom and get some new throw pillows for your bed and sofa. Cheap and easy! Build up a nice and relaxing smell with some soy candles that smell like jasmine or sandalwood. Furthermore, professionally frame up some blown up pictures or prints and hang them on the walls around your house. Little things do make the difference!
