Popular Autumn Walks in the Forest of Dean

As we say goodbye to summer and head into autumn, there aren’t many places better to be than the forest of dean. The autumn colour display in the forest is a spectacular show to see, and a visit to the forest at this time of the year is a really magical experience.

Of course it always helps to know where you are going and make sure that you see everything that you want to see as well – so whether you want to head over to the sculpture trail, get some walking maps from the map shop and explore the forest, or follow one of the more popular walking routes, here are some of the best autumn walks in the forest of dean…

Soudley Ponds – Combine a walk through the woods with a stunning scenic walk around the lakes at Soudley ponds. As well as being great for walking, there are also picnic benches here, and if you are feeling up to a steeper walk, the view you will be greeted with at the top is stunning!

The Sculpture Trail – As well as being able to enjoy a walk through the beautiful forest, the Sculpture trail also has seventeen sculptures along the route which you will see as you walk – see the stained glass windows and the giant chair amongst others.

Wenchford – On a sunny Autumn day this is a fantastic place to be – paddle in the stream, before walking from the picnic site – you will see parts of the history of the forest as you pass a free mine as well as one of the old abandoned railway lines, and if you want to walk the steep trail you will have a view of the forest and the Cotswold Hills.
