Embracing The Trend: White Bedroom Furniture

We all know that in the world of fashion, trends come and go seasonally. This not only includes cuts, fit and shape but also colour too. Well trends in the world of interior design follow similar seasonal trends and for spring/summer 2013, the trend when it comes to bedroom furniture is clean, simple lines and a neutral white finish. Here’s how to achieve the look.

White Wardrobes
As a wardrobe is a large item which will dominate your bedroom, an all-white wardrobe might make your bedroom look a little too clinical this year. Therefore a blend of white and wood finishes is a good compromise as the wood helps to break up the white colour block whist the white still provides the fresh, clean look you are trying to achieve.

To really embrace the trend, they to avoid wardrobes with drawers and instead look for simple door panels and certainly no mirrors. To get a really clean look, choose a wardrobe with either really minimalist, simple handles or with touch opening.

White Clothing Storage
Although dressing tables are very practical, they do not really fit with the current interior design bedroom trend. This is because the top of the dressing table can become cluttered and this isn’t in keeping for the clean lines and fuss-free look of the trend. Instead of buying a dressing table, choose something that is less likely to become cluttered such as a chest of drawers.

As with the wardrobe trend, try to choose a chest of drawers with a modern, crisp look. Drawers should be uniform in size and shape to embrace the trend and handles should be plain and simple – no added embellishments or design features.

The White Bed
The bed is an important part of the look. The bed frame should be all-white with panel detailing to enhance the straight line look of the trend. Look for a bed with a simple square or rectangular headboard and a footrest is a must to achieve the right look. If under bed storage is required, choose well-fitting drawers in all white and look for ones with cut outs instead of handles for a more minimalist finish in keeping with the theme.

Bedding is also an important element in achieving the look. However as the rest of the room is white, white bed linen should be avoided to stop your bedroom looking like a hospital room. Instead introduce a hint of subtle colour with either pale pink, pale blue or pale green plain sheets and pillowcases. The duvet can include a touch more colour – choose one with narrow or wide stripes for a fashionable look.

Finishing the Look
To finish off this trendy look for spring/summer 2013, ideally your bedroom will have wooden floors. These can be made softer and warmer with the introduction of rugs. Look for white or ivory rugs with a deep shag-pile for a touch of luxury, large sizes look best. Curtains aren’t really right for achieving this look so opt instead of white blinds. Due to white blinds not being ideal for blocking out light, black-out blinds might be more appropriate. Complete the look with subtle accessories such single colour vases for a colour-block effect.
