What items should be contained in a Chemical Spill kit

Not many ordinary working people have reason to come into contact with Chemical Spill Kits but if you ever do need to know what should be in one of these kits that are supplied by a professional company such as hydepark-environmental then here is a list of items.  There should be a good supply of absorbent materials, such as pads and pillows, some neutralizing powders, such as sodium bicarbonate and liquids such as citric acid. All these kits will contain PPE, a phrase we have heard a great deal of over the past two years, Personal Protective Equipment is an integral part of these types of kit.

Alongside these other essential items should be a dustpan and long handled broom to help clear away any solid debris.  You should be aware that there is more than one type of Chemical Spill Kit, one is for general purpose use and is colour coded blue and the other for the more aggressive Hydrocarbon spills and is colour coded yellow.

If you work in an environment where chemicals are used daily it’s almost certain, no matter how careful the workforce, that a spillage may occur. To minimise any serious impact at the work site and stop spills from contaminating soil, storm drains and waterways, your company should have a plan of action in place that is brought into force should an accident happen. You should receive intensive training on what to do if any such incident should occur.
